To highlight the importance of National HIV Testing Day, Congressman Donald M. Payne, Jr. (NJ-10) took an HIV screening test and stated the following in response:

"Today, it is critical to highlight the importance of getting tested for HIV and to eliminate the stigma from knowing your status. Currently, New Jersey has the 5th highest reported AIDS cases in the United States with 36,648 New Jerseyans living with HIV. In Essex, Hudson, and Union counties alone, there are 17, 287 people living with HIV. Getting tested is the key to preventing the spread of this fatal disease, and early detection is crucial to successful treatment. The screening is simple, and under Obamacare, New Jerseyans will be able to get tested with no out-of-pocket cost. So join me in getting tested because when we all get tested we ensure that we are one step closer to an AIDS-free New Jersey, an AIDS-free America, and an AIDS-free world."
