Rep. Bera, M.D. statement on DOMA and Prop 8 Rulings

Statement

Rep. Ami Bera, M.D. (CA-7) offered the following comment on the Supreme Court's ruling on the Defense of Marraige Act and Proposition 8:

"I'm thrilled that the Supreme Court struck down the so-called Defense of Marriage Act, and I'm overjoyed the Court has returned marriage equality to Californians. This will ensure thousands of our same-sex neighbors, friends, and family members will gain the recognition and rights that they have always deserved. We are a stronger country when we respect and support all families, and today marks a huge step towards equality for all. I'll continue to work to make sure all Americans are treated equally, but today, let us celebrate this incredible victory."

Congressman Ami Bera, M.D. represents Sacramento County. Born and raised in California, Bera is a physician and the only Indian American currently serving in Congress. He's fighting to rebuild an economy that works for middle class families and to reduce our country's debt in a responsible way. As a co-chair of No Labels' Problem Solvers, he's working with people from both parties to find bipartisan solutions to our nation's challenges. He and his wife Janine live in Elk Grove with their daughter Sydra. For more updates on Rep. Bera follow @RepBera on Twitter, like Congressman Bera on Facebook, or visit http://www.bera.house.gov.
