Tuesday, June 25, 2013 -- Governor Deval Patrick today released the following statement on the U.S. Supreme Court's ruling on Shelby County v. Holder:
"The Court's voting rights decision today is disappointing. With so many jurisdictions moving to limit access to the ballot, and politics so racially polarized in the so-called "covered' states, the Court seems prepared to look the other way. It is amazing how the Court's majority can lay aside the tools we use to build a stronger democracy and still presume democracy will be strong. It will be up to Congress to fix the Voting Rights Act, and up to voters to give us a Congress that can."
