Congresswoman Shelley Moore Capito (WV-02) released the following statement after voting for H.R. 2231, the Offshore Energy and Jobs Act, which passed the House today with bipartisan support.
"While President Obama continues to pick winners and losers when it comes to American energy, the House took steps towards energy independence. The Offshore Energy and Jobs Act would expand our nation's offshore energy production in order to create over a million new American jobs. This legislation looks to free some of the 85 percent of our offshore areas that the president is holding hostage. These federal barriers are not only costing Americans jobs and stifling our economy, but they are preventing us from becoming energy independent. As the president continues his all-of-the-except plan, I will continue to fight for a comprehensive energy strategy that creates jobs and gets our economy back on track."
