U.S. Congressman David N. Cicilline (D-RI) today issued the following statement after Republicans failed to pass their own deeply-flawed farm bill:
"While I am pleased that the House rejected this extreme proposal, it is disappointing that Republican leaders have adjourned the House without passing such a critical piece of legislation for American families. The proposal rejected today by the House would have slashed funding for food and nutrition programs by more than $20 billion and would have failed to reform our nation's agriculture policy and ensure a focus on sustainable agriculture."
"Today's rejection of the House Republican farm bill should be recognized for what it is: an embarrassing repudiation of the Republican Party's efforts to pass extreme legislation without working across the aisle. It is long past time for the House Republican leadership to drop the political charades and get back to the important work of governing."
