Congressman Adrian Smith (R-NE) released the following statement after President Obama announced plans to use executive powers to address climate change during a speech at Georgetown University:
"I strongly disagree with the President's decision to bypass Congress and impose new energy regulations which could devastate an already-struggling economy. The new regulations proposed by the President could cause energy prices to spike and undermine the domestic energy revolution which is reducing our dependence on foreign sources of fuel, creating jobs, and growing our economy.
"The manner in which the President proposed implementing these new rules also is misguided. The Administration cannot continue to use the regulatory process and executive orders to subvert the legislative branch and the will of the American people.
"I will continue to work with my colleagues to promote an all-of-the-above energy strategy which continues to capitalize on American innovation and abundant natural resources."
