Following House passage of the National Defense Authorization Act, Rep. Rich Nugent (FL-11) issued the following statement:
"As a new member of the House Armed Services Committee, this was my first opportunity to see the Defense Authorization all the way through the process. It's an enormous bill and covers each and every program within the Department of Defense. I am very proud to say that the committee worked extremely hard to make good use of every remaining dollar following two successive rounds of very deep cuts to our military. And despite the overall tone of partisanship in Washington these days, the committee worked in a strong bipartisan way to get this bill done. It passed out of committee 59 to 2. "I am also proud to say that amendments I put forward including the Combat Action Badge, as well as directed energy programs, and a new submersible for the SEAL teams were all accepted as part of the base bill. On the whole, I think it's a testament to what can be accomplished when people put politics aside and work toward a common goal -- in this case, maintaining our military capabilities and making sure that our troops have the resources they need to carry out their mission safely and successfully."
