Dear Friend,
On Tuesday, I met with the Central Florida delegation of the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, a nationwide partnership of treatment providers, researchers and advocates working together to support pancreatic cancer patients and advance cancer research. Through the perseverance of advocates such as the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, I know we can make breakthroughs in our understanding of this disease, positively impact the lives of patients, and one day, end pancreatic cancer.
I also met with Jack Levine the founder of 4Generations Institute and for many years the President of Voices for Florida's Children. We discussed the success of Health Families Florida and how we can further their mission in the future. Healthy Families Florida is a nationally accredited, free, voluntary home visiting program, which provides new and expectant parents with counseling and support.
On Thursday, I presented the Eustis High School and Mount Dora High School Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps units with a flag flown over the U.S. Capitol. It was inspiring to meet these cadets who are moved by a sense of responsibility to serve others and lead in their community, and it was a pleasure to acknowledge their achievements and encourage their future endeavors.
I also hosted Anna, a very thoughtful National Young Leaders Conference (NYLC) participant from Ocoee High School, at my office in Washington, DC, for a discussion about Congress, public policy and the inner workings of the legislative process. NYLC consists of an intensive week of direct leadership training and educational simulations focused on equipping Anna and her peers to engage in our democracy and lead in their communities. It was good to be a part of her experience in Washington, DC, and I look forward to her contributions to Central Florida.
On Saturday, I attended the Preeclampsia Foundation's Promise Walk for Preclampsia in downtown Orlando. I heard sad and moving stories about the devastating effect of preeclampsia, and I spoke to the group about my own family's experience with preeclampsia. The foundation is committed to the support and education of women and families affected by preeclampsia and is an advocate for continued research in this area.
Your servant,
Daniel Webster
