House Budget Committee Approves Budget-Process-Reform Bills

Location: Washington, DC

Today the House Budget Committee approved two budget-process-reform bills to help break the spending habit in Washington. They are H.R. 1874, the Pro-Growth Budgeting Act of 2013, introduced by House Budget Committee Vice Chairman Tom Price of Georgia, and H.R. 1871, the Baseline Reform Act of 2013, introduced by Congressman Rob Woodall of Georgia. Upon passage of the bills, Chairman Paul Ryan of Wisconsin issued the following statement:

"There's a bias toward spending money in Washington. It's built into the very tools we use to write our laws. These bills will remove that bias. And they have my full support. The Pro-Growth Budgeting Act will help members understand how legislation affects our economy. And the Baseline Reform Act will make sure Congress sets our priorities--not some mathematical formula.

"I want to thank Vice Chairman Price and Congressman Woodall for their work on these bills. They're part of a larger effort to pay down our debt and to jumpstart the economy. They're commonsense reforms I hope we can pass in the full House this year."
