Today, U.S. Rep. Michelle Lujan Grisham released the following statement in response to a House Judiciary Committee bill (H.R. 1797) passed yesterday that would ban abortions after 20 weeks of pregnancy, even in cases of rape or incest:
"When will the Republican War on Women finally end? In the face of widespread public support for protecting women's reproductive rights, an all-male group of Republicans on the House Judiciary Committee voted to ban abortions after 20 weeks of pregnancy, even in cases of rape or incest. In defending the controversial provision, the bill's sponsor even brazenly remarked, "the incidence of rape resulting in pregnancy are very low.' Congress should be passing legislation to create jobs and grow the economy instead of wasting time attempting to further restrict the rights of women."
