Congressman Xaview Becerra on Supreme Court's Arizona Voter Registration Law Decision

Location: Washington, DC

Today, Congressman Xavier Becerra (CA-34), Chairman of the House Democratic Caucus, released the following statement after the Supreme Court, in a 7-2 decision, struck down Arizona's Proposition 200 law which placed additional burdens for naturalized citizens to register to vote:

"We have no weapon more powerful for preserving our democracy than our right to vote. Today's Supreme Court decision overturning Arizona's onerous Proposition 200 serves as a reminder to those who would use politics to lock the ballot box that our democracy is not for sale. Democracy works best when more, not fewer, citizens exercise their constitutionally protected right to vote."
