House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today in recognition of the 50th anniversary of National Small Business Week, which began today:
"I join in marking the 50th annual National Small Business Week, when Americans pay tribute to the millions of small business owners and employees across our country. Small businesses have always been the driving engine of opportunity in America. Our history has been written in the countless stories of hard-working entrepreneurs launching small businesses that create jobs and contribute to their local communities. With more than half of all Americans either owning their own small businesses or working for one, Congress must make it a priority to help entrepreneurs and small businesses meet the challenges of an uncertain economy. First and foremost, we must take action to restore certainty by achieving a big and balanced solution to deficits that replaces the sequester, restores fiscal discipline, and encourages growth.
"Congress must also pursue a comprehensive approach to job creation that helps small businesses expand and create new opportunities that grow our middle-class. House Democrats' Make It In America jobs plan does exactly that, focusing on promoting exports, training a competitive workforce, and helping businesses innovate right here in America. I hope Democrats and Republicans can work together to bring Make It In America legislation to the Floor so we can pass it and provide our small businesses with the assistance they need to keep growing our economy now and over the long term."
