Governor Scott Walker attended the U.S. -- Japan Economic Development Conference today in Fontana, Wisconsin. The conference was held as a platform to discuss exports and the trade relationship between the United States and Japan.
"We have enjoyed good trade relations with Japan for many years, and I'm glad we are looking at ways to expand our business with this great nation," Governor Walker said. "Increasing our exports and business opportunities with Japan will continue to be mutually beneficial for both countries. As we continue to grow our economy, this relationship is one that I'm proud to say is growing."
Exports from Wisconsin to Japan totaled $238.9 million for the first quarter of 2013, which is a 2.21 percent increase from the first quarter in 2012; while overall, exports to Japan ranked 5th for 2012. Over 55 percent of exports to Japan are medical and scientific instruments and industrial machinery.
