Olson: President's Naming of Rice as Security Advisor Shows Lack of Concern for Benghazi Scandal

Rep. Pete Olson (TX-22) today issued the following statement in response to President Obama's appointment of United Nations Ambassador Susan Rice to serve as U.S. national security advisor, an influential position that does not require Senate confirmation:

"President Obama has the right to name his own national security advisor, but in naming Susan Rice to the position, he shows he doesn't really care about the Benghazi scandal. Ms. Rice relayed the false message to Americans that the Benghazi terrorist attacks that left four Americans dead were caused by an anti-Islam video. The Obama Administration's attempts to alter the truth surrounding the Benghazi attacks show a major lack of transparency in this Administration, despite the President's claims and promises of openness. Their actions were and continue to be deceitful. But apparently the President is comfortable hiding behind deceit because as his press secretary told the American people, "Benghazi happened a long time ago.'"
