Letter to the Senate - Steel Caucus

Letter

U.S. Sens. Jeff Sessions (R-AL) and Jay Rockefeller (D-WV), co-chairs of the Senate Steel Caucus, sent a letter with vice-chairs Sherrod Brown (D-OH) and Pat Toomey (R-PA) to their fellow Senators urging support for the newly reformed Steel Caucus which will focus on promoting American manufacturing and the importance of our domestic steel industry:

The text follows:

Dear Colleague,

We are writing to invite you to join the bipartisan Senate Steel Caucus. Steel and other manufacturing industries are the backbone of our economy. A strong manufacturing sector creates significant benefits for society, including good-paying jobs, investment in research and development, critical materials for our national defense, and high value exports.

American steel manufacturers contribute approximately $75 billion to our nation's economy each year. Every job in the American steel industry supports seven jobs in the U.S. economy. The steel industry directly employs 153,700 people in the United States and indirectly supports more than one million domestic workers in related industries.

This Congress, we will be debating important legislation on a number of topics that impact the steel industry. From tax reform to energy policy, the questions that we will grapple with will translate into jobs created or jobs lost back home.

The Steel Caucus gives us a bipartisan forum to bridge boundaries and work together to increase American competitiveness. We hope you will consider joining. To join, or for more information, please contact Mark Libell at Mark_Libell@Rockefeller.Senate.Gov or Graham Hixon at Graham_Hixon@Sessions.Senate.Gov.

Sincerely
