The House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform will mark up Rep. Dennis Ross's (FL-15) bill, H.R. 568, the Official Time Reporting Act tomorrow.
"The sole job of some federal employees is to serve as a union representative. At a time when our country is almost $17 trillion in debt, we should not be spending money for federal employees to conduct union business during official work time," said Ross. "I am glad that the Oversight Committee is looking into this issue so that we can save hard-earned taxpayer dollars."

* In November 2012, Rep. Ross and his colleagues requested an official time report from the Office of Personnel Management (OPM). In February 2013, OPM released its report for FY 2011. Agencies reported that bargaining unit employees spent a total of 3,395,187 hours performing representational duties on official time. The grand total cost of official time across all agencies in FY11 was $155,573,739.25.
