Renacci Attends Veterans Veterans Forum and Local Town Hall Meeting

Press Release

Location: Washington, DC

This week, Rep. Jim Renacci (OH-16) attended a veterans' forum in Medina and a town hall meeting with Cuyahoga Councilman Dave Greenspan (R-District 1) and State Representative Nan Baker (R-Westlake).

"Whenever Congress is out of session, I make it a point to be in the 16th District so I can hear from the citizens I represent," said Rep. Renacci. "This week was especially productive. In Medina, I met with veterans who continue to experience a significant backlog in their attempts to file for benefits they have rightfully earned. Our veterans deserve better. In North Olmstead, Councilman Greenspan, Representative Baker and I met with residents who came to discuss issues as wide ranging as tax reform to the IRS to Social Security. I encourage residents to reach out to Councilman Greenspan's office for details on timing and location for future town halls."

At the Medina VFW, Rep. Renacci met with 15 veterans who served in Vietnam, the Gulf War, Iraq, and Afghanistan. On average, Cleveland area veterans experience a 425 day wait to complete a claim. That is more than three months longer than the national average, which stands at roughly 320 days -- a number that is far too high. Rep. Renacci, along with 163 Republican and Democrat Members of the House, signed a letter to President Barack Obama urging his administration to take immediate action to lower the significant wait our veterans face when filing a claim with the Veterans Administration. A copy of the letter can be viewed here.

Veterans who are currently experiencing problems with the VA are encouraged to contact Rep. Renacci's Wadsworth office at (330) 334-0040 or through his website: www.renacci.house.gov.

In North Olmsted, roughly 30 constituents came to meet with their federal, state and local representatives at a public town hall meeting. Each elected representative gave a brief introduction and then opened the event to questions from audience. Rep. Renacci plans to continue attending these events. Councilman Greenspan can be reached at (216) 698-2047.

Rep. Renacci is serving his second term in the U.S. House of Representatives, where he is a member of the Ways and Means Committee. Prior to his election he worked as a Certified Public Accountant in the health care industry, and owned and operated over 60 other businesses in the automotive and sports management fields.
