Hastings' Statement on Memorial Day

Statement

Date: May 27, 2013
Location: Fort Lauderdale, FL

Today, Congressman Alcee L. Hastings (D-Miramar) made the following statement commemorating Memorial Day:

"As we mark this year's Memorial Day, let us remember the brave men and women who have fought and died in defense of our country. Today, we pay tribute to the countless Americans who have served in the United Sates Armed Forces. Reflecting on the sacrifices made by so many, we honor their courage and dedication to preserving the rights of all Americans.

"This is also a time to recognize and thank our veterans for their service, as well as those protecting our country while stationed around the globe. As a nation, we would not be where we are today without the unwavering commitment of our armed forces. I would again like to convey my profound respect and admiration to those who have served in years past and those who continue to serve.

"In Congress, I will continue to fight for the rights of all veterans, active duty members of the armed forces, and their families. I am committed to aiding each and every one of my constituents returning home from deployment overseas as they access the services and benefits they rightly deserve. This Memorial Day, I encourage my colleagues in Congress as well as all Americans to join me in honoring and supporting our service members and veterans."

Congressman Alcee L. Hastings serves as Senior Member of the House Rules Committee, Ranking Democratic Member of the U.S. Helsinki Commission, and Democratic Chairman of the Florida Delegation.
