When you walk through an automatic door at a store, there's a good chance it is made in Farmington.

Access Technologies, a division of Stanley Black & Decker, makes automatic doors for all sorts of purposes including store entries and hospitals, according to President Frank Luke.

Access Technologies has been in Farmington since 1967, according to Luke, and currently has 316 employees at its location in Farmington, the second most of any Stanley location in the state.

In total, Luke said there are about 1,000 employees who work for Access technology across several factories and 29 field operations throughout the United States and Canada.

"By far in North America we are the market leader," Luke said. "We are the last American manufacturer of automatic doors."

On Tuesday, U.S. Rep. Elizabeth Esty, D-5th, visited the manufacturing plant on Scott Swamp Road as part of a tour of manufacturers in the state's fifth congressional district.

Luke takes pride in his company's involvement with the community, his division has some employees that help in the community including through FIRST, the robotics league for students, and junior achievement.

"There are these really pressing needs in our communities and it's incredibly important that everybody steps up," Esty said. "We appreciate companies that take a leadership role in doing that."
