Rangel Honors Senator Lautenberg

Date: June 3, 2013
Location: New York, NY

Congressman Charles B. Rangel released the following statement to honor the life of Senator Frank Lautenberg who passed away on June 3, 2013:

"I am deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Senator Frank Lautenberg. Over the years, I have come to know Frank as a good friend, fellow veteran, and colleague. Elected in 1982, Lautenberg has been distinguished as one of the most productive senators in the history of this country. As a senator from New Jersey, he served his country with pride and humility.

During his tenure he worked to protect Americans by creating the nationwide 0.08 blood alcohol standard that revolutionized drunk-driving laws among other notable career highlights. I had the personal pleasure to travel with him to Haiti following the devastating earthquake in 2010. I supported his efforts for basic preventive healthcare for women such as family planning services. His work will be forever valued and he will always be fondly remembered.

My thoughts and prayers go out to his friends and family during this difficult time. The world is a better place thanks to Senator Lautenberg's service and he will be greatly missed."Congressman Charles B.
