U.S. Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL) today voted for legislation affirming that United States policy should be to maintain and promote a multi-stakeholder model of Internet governance.

Statement by Ros-Lehtinen:

"Governments, whether here at home or abroad, should not be in the business of controlling the Internet. In order to promote innovation, democratization, and access to information, we must ensure the Internet is kept free from the kind of government overreach and stifling regulations that have become all too common. The Internet must remain an unconstrained environment in which all sectors of society can compete, freely express their ideas, and not have to wonder whether their safety or human rights are in jeopardy.

"United States policy should reflect the fact that a free and open world depends on a free and open web. I am proud to vote for legislation that affirms this policy and urge my Senate colleagues to do the same."
