Congresswoman Hahn Statement on Impact of Sequestration on FAA Workers and Passengers

Statement

Date: April 23, 2013
Location: Washington, DC

Today, Congresswoman Janice Hahn (CA-44) released the following statement in response to the impact of sequestration on FAA workers and passengers:

"Today we are witnessing the real impact of sequestration - a man-made crisis that could have been avoided. As a result of these irresponsible, automatic cuts, our airlines are experiencing widespread flight delays across this country. At Los Angeles International Airport alone, 20% of arrival flights and 60% of departing flights have been delayed, causing great disruption and frustration for travelers. At a time when we should be ensuring public safety and growing our nation's economy, we are burdening our workforce with forced furloughs that not only hurt workers and passengers, but impact our nation's tourism - stifling our economic recovery. FAA workers should not be used as a political pawn due to Congress' inability to pass a sensible plan. I plan to address this issue and call on my colleagues in Congress to reverse these automatic cuts threatening both our nation's economy and public safety."
