Gov. Shumlin issued the following statement:
"I applaud the Legislature for its work on the Flexible Pathways education bill. As I said in my inaugural address at the beginning of this legislative session, in order to compete in the 21st century economy, we need to take Vermont's very good education system and make it the best in the nation. We need to do a much better job of closing the achievement gap and moving low-income students beyond high school and into good paying careers. The Flexible Pathways bill is an important step toward these goals. It will help ensure that our education system is tailored to each student's individual needs, expand access to internships, and spend existing dollars better by giving all high school students the opportunity to get college credits."
