Terry Statement on Benghazi Hearings

Representative Lee Terry (R-NE) today made the following statement on the ongoing investigation and hearings being conducted by the House Oversight and Government Reform committee on the September 11, 2012 terrorist attacks at the U.S. mission in Benghazi, Libya:

"I want to commend Chairman Issa for the yeoman's work he's put into getting to the truth of what happened that day in Benghazi. The American people and in particular, the families of the victims of this terrorist attack deserve to know the truth.

"Three days after the attack, I led some of my colleagues in sending a letter to Chairman Issa and Chairwomen Ros-Lehtinen urging them to conduct hearings on how we can better protect our diplomats abroad. In November, I wrote to Speaker Boehner telling him of my concerns that this controversy might be having on our troops abroad.

"It's frustrating to me that nearly nine months after Benghazi this Administration has not been forthcoming and we're investigating whether or not a cover up has taken place rather than figuring out ways to make sure this never happens again.

"Four the last four months, a comprehensive investigation has taken place with House Republicans having the right members on the right committee investigating what has happened and getting to the bottom of whether or not a potential cover-up of the poor response to the attacks in Benghazi occurred.

"I don't believe any special select committee can do a better job than Chairman Issa. There is a process in place and it appears to be working. What we saw with today's hearings in that the truth is finally coming out."
