Today Energy and Commerce Committee Ranking Member Henry A. Waxman issued the following statement on Covered California award of grants to community organizations for outreach and education on the Affordable Care Act:
"California is taking another big step forward in implementing the Affordable Care Act by announcing $37 million in grants for education and outreach. The 48 organizations awarded grants today are a diverse group of community organizations, religious organizations, and educational institutions. They will help Californians get ready to sign up for quality, affordable coverage through MediCal and California's health insurance marketplace, Covered California. This is another illustration of how the Affordable Care Act will expand health insurance options for millions of Californians, dramatically reduce the number of uninsured, and provide generous financial assistance for individuals purchasing coverage. These grantees will play an important role in educating Californians about their new coverage options and dispelling many of the myths propagated by opponents of the law."
