With our support and sponsorship, "Gun-free" and "weapon-free" zones were established around our schools to keep children out of harm's way. We also developed legislation which reduces the legal capacity of ammunition magazines in New Jersey, prohibits the possession of ammunition capable of penetrating body armor as well as prohibits mail order, Internet, telephone, and other anonymous methods of ammunition sale or transfer in our State. We have also highlighted the need for mental health screenings by licensed professionals for those purchasing firearms and a common sense expansion of mental health programs. In addition, we supported a bill which allows judges to direct delinquent juveniles to seek gang prevention programs, a sensible step towards rebuilding young lives and curb gang violence in urban areas. We also sponsored legislation which focuses upon eliminating the dangers posed by texting and driving. Finally, our office introduced legislation to remove the statute of limitations governing civil actions alleging the sexual abuse of a minor.
