Udall Pledges to Work with Military, Health Care Providers to Ensure Military Families Receive Timely, Quality Care

Statement

Date: May 1, 2013

After hearing multiple concerns from military treatment facilities, local health providers and military families about issues that have arisen during UnitedHealthcare's transition to managing the TRICARE West contract, Mark Udall, who serves on the U.S. Senate Armed Services Committee, released the following statement:

"I have heard from health providers and patients in Colorado about their concerns regarding the transition to UnitedHealthcare's management of Tricare. We must ensure that patients get timely, qualified care that isn't bogged down by red tape during this transition," Udall said. "My office will work with providers, UnitedHealthcare, the military and patients to ensure that the issues that have surfaced during the transition are resolved in a timely manner and that our troops and their families receive the high quality of care they deserve."

United Health Care received the TRICARE West Region contract from TriWest Healthcare Alliance in early April, making the company responsible for the health care program serving Colorado's uniformed service members, retirees and their families.
