Statement from Co-Chairs of the Congressional Veterans Jobs Caucus on Veterans Unemployment Numbers

Press Release

Location: Washington, DC

Today, U.S. Representatives Jeff Denham (R-Turlock) and Tim Walz (D-MN), co-chairs of the Congressional Veterans Jobs Caucus, released the following joint statement in response to April's veteran unemployment numbers released by the Bureau of Labor and Statistics (BLS). The report from BLS shows that the overall unemployment rate for veterans has dropped from 7.1 percent in March to 6.2 percent in April. Further, the unemployment number for post-9/11 veterans has dropped from 9.1 percent to 7.5 percent--in line with the civilian populations unemployment rate.

"Today's jobs report reflects the commitment being made, by businesses large and small, to provide opportunity and prosperity for our brave veterans when they get home. While we're encouraged by today's veterans jobs number's, especially for post-9/11 veterans, our mission is far from over. We must continue to do all we can to ensure our veterans are able to achieve the American Dream; to find careers that allow them to utilize their skills, support their families, and have passion for their work."

Rep. Denham served on active and reserve status in the U.S. Air Force for 16 years. Rep. Walz served 24 years in the Army National Guard and is the highest ranking enlisted soldier to ever serve in Congress.
