U.S. Congressman David N. Cicilline (D-RI), who has called for President Obama to dismiss acting Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA) Director Edward J. DeMarco, issued the following statement on the President's nomination of Mel Watt to serve as Director of the FHFA:

"I congratulate my colleague, Congressman Mel Watt, on his nomination to serve as the next Director of the Federal Housing Finance Agency. Mel Watt has spent the last two decades as a strong advocate for working families and has been deeply committed to creating real economic opportunity for all. His experience as an economic development attorney and small business owner will be very valuable in his new role. I look forward to working with Congressman Watt in his new position as I continue to fight to help Rhode Island homeowners, and I hope that the Senate will act quickly to confirm his nomination."
