Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today after President Obama announced his intention to nominate Penny Pritzker as the next Secretary of Commerce and Michael Froman as the next U.S. Trade Representative:
"Today, President Obama nominated two effective, passionate leaders to guide our efforts to grow our economy, strengthen the hands of American businesses and workers, and keep our nation number one on the global stage.
"As our next Commerce Secretary, Penny Pritzker will bring a lifetime of experience in the private sector and civic engagement to the task of building bridges with the business community and promoting an agenda of growth and opportunity for the middle class. She understands the importance of public-private partnerships and knows how companies operate and succeed. She is the right choice to lead the Commerce Department.
"As the next U.S. Trade Representative, Mike Froman offers a background in both the public and private sectors, and a career spent as the driving force behind our efforts to strengthen ties with our economic partners around the world. He will work to maintain America's leadership in the international economic system, protect the rights and interests of America's workers, and strengthen America's role in global trade.
"Together, Penny Pritzker and Mike Froman add to the extraordinary team assembled by the President to lead our country in his second term. I look forward to working with both of these leaders to create jobs and expand our economy in the years to come."
