Congresswoman Frederica Wilson Votes to Stop Flight Delays; Urges Comprehensive Fix to the Sequester

Today, Congresswoman Frederica Wilson voted for the Reducing Flight Delays Act of 2013. She issued the following statement:

"I voted today to stop the FAA staffing shortages that have caused widespread flight delays across the nation.

With more than 3,500 delays reported since Sunday, this act will restore normalcy for travelers and boost our national economy," said Congresswoman Wilson.

"But it's not a lasting fix," added the Congresswoman. "Congress must stop the "sequester." More than 79,000 jobs in Florida and 2 million jobs across the nation depend on our ending this series of reckless cuts to the federal budget. This is why I co-authored and will continue to fight for H.R. 900: the Cancel the Sequester Act.

In the days ahead, I am also continuing my fight to save one of the first casualties of the "sequester"--Broward County's North Perry Airport. I will be working with the Department of Transportation to clarify that today's legislation permits Secretary LaHood to use unobligated funds to prevent the closure of 149 contract air traffic control towers, including North Perry. These towers are not only essential for passengers. They're also essential for flight training, public safety, and small business.

It's time for Members of Congress to stop these reckless cuts and start doing what the American people elected them to do: Create jobs," concluded Congresswoman Wilson.
