U.S. Rep. Dennis Ross (FL-15) spoke on the House floor with great sadness remembering the victims of abortion. His speech is below:
"Every day, over 3,200 children are aborted in our great country -- the same country that is called the land of the free and the home of the brave. This isn't just unacceptable -- it's a horrific tragedy.
"And my heart goes out to all of the women who feel that abortion is the only option. God made them special and made their babies special, too. These children aren't free and will never have the option to be brave.
"Currently in Philadelphia, Kermit Gosnell, an abortion doctor, is on trial for multiple counts of murder. One count is for a woman who died during an abortion at his clinic.
"The horrific findings in Mr. Gosnell's clinic serve as just one more devastating wake-up call. As a country, we should work to protect everyone -- including women and children.
"When will we be bold enough to enact serious changes? These children are precious and are truly gifts.
"We should not use any taxpayer dollars to fund abortion and I also believe that we should prohibit abortions of unborn babies who are more than 20 weeks old in utero, which is why I recently co-sponsored the District of Columbia Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act.
"With that, Mr. Speaker, I yield back the balance of my time."
-Rep. Ross signed letters that were sent to ABC, CBS, and NBC regarding the lack of coverage of the Gosnell trial.
-Rep. Ross is an original co-sponsor of the DC Pain Capable Unborn Child Protection Act.
-Rep. Ross cosponsored H.R. 61 and H.R. 217 which would prohibit federal taxpayer dollars from subsidizing large abortion providers such as Planned Parenthood.
