Today Congressman Kevin Cramer expressed concern regarding the potential relaxation of current broadcasting decency standards in a letter with several colleagues to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC).

"We cannot underestimate the power of mass media's influence on social behavioral norms. If we want to effectively stem the tide of rising violence in our society, we need to address the level of profanity, sexuality and violence portrayed in the media and consumed by the general public. We cannot pretend one issue stands alone from any other. By continuing to relax the standards of acceptable conduct on television, we weaken our culture," Cramer said.

On February 22, Cramer facilitated a public forum to discuss firearms, violence, and culture with local law enforcement officials, mental health professionals, clergymen, and educators. Over 100 members of the community attended the forum.

Cramer is a member of the Congressional Caucus on Foster Youth, the Military Mental Health Caucus, and the Congressional Prayer Caucus. He has supported legislative efforts aimed at reducing violence against women and children and supported funding for assisting victims of child abuse.
