Senator Jay Rockefeller today issued the following statement after Senator Max Baucus announced that he would retire at the end of this Congress.
"Senator Baucus and I have served together in the Senate Finance Committee for more than 25 years. I have seen up close and deeply respect his incredible work ethic, total dedication to public service, and staunch efforts to stand up for Montanans for more than three decades in the Senate. Max played an important role in shepherding the landmark health reform law through the Senate, which I know we both believe is a tremendous achievement for the American people. And I've been proud to fight together for tax laws and policies -- like the Earned Income Tax Credit and Child Tax Credit -- that have helped lift millions of hard-working families out of poverty. I'm very sorry to see Chairman Baucus leave the Senate."
