Rep. David B. McKinley has joined Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur to introduce the Examining Mental Health Services Act of 2013.
The act will direct the Institute of Medicine to study mental health services in the United States and identify gaps and problematic areas.
"The mental health system in our country is failing many Americans," said Rep. McKinley. "With the recent violent acts perpetuated by individuals suffering from mental illness, it is becoming ever more apparent that Americans struggling with mental illness are falling through the cracks. For these reasons, my colleague Congresswoman Kaptur and I believe that this piece of legislation is increasingly urgent."
"This legislation will help to identify the large gaps in mental health services that exist today," said Rep. Kaptur. "We must begin to break down barriers in this field and reach individuals with severe mental illness who need our help most."
