Chairman Salmon and Ranking Member Sires Issue Joint Statement on the Venezuelan Election Results

Location: Unknown

Chairman Matt Salmon (AZ-05) and Ranking Member Albio Sires (NJ-08) of the Subcommittee on the Western Hemisphere of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs issued the following joint statement regarding the most recent election results in Venezuela.

"In the spirit of democratic values held throughout most of the Western Hemisphere, and given reports of irregularities during the Venezuelan presidential elections on Sunday, we join the Obama Administration's call for an audit and recount of the election results. The questions surrounding the outcome have the potential to destabilize the Venezuelan government, while calling into question the region's commitment to democracy and rule of law."--Chairman Matt Salmon (AZ-05) and Ranking Member Albio Sires (NJ-08)
