Pryor Calls FAA Measure "Win for Arkansas'

Statement

Date: April 26, 2013
Issues: Transportation

U.S. Senator Mark Pryor today released a statement after Congress passed a bipartisan measure that would prevent air traffic controller furloughs. In March, the FAA announced that it would eliminate funding for 149 contract control towers nationwide, including towers in Fayetteville and Texarkana, due to sequestration.

It's unacceptable that the FAA even considered implementing this irresponsible and dangerous plan. Shutting down the Texarkana and Fayetteville towers would harm military training and readiness, public safety, and future economic development. That's why I supported yesterday's measure to stop air traffic controller furloughs. This is a good first step to keeping our towers open, and our skies safe. The fight's not over yet.
