U.S. Representative Martha Roby (R-AL) today reacted to a news report stating some Members of Congress are considering exempting themselves and their staff from provisions of President Obama's healthcare law that are set to take effect next year.

"Some in Congress now want to exempt themselves and their staff from ObamaCare? How about we exempt everyone in the United States from this costly, overreaching law by repealing ObamaCare once and for all," Rep. Roby said. "This story just proves what a "train wreck' this law really is. It is an outrageous example of Washington hypocrisy for Democrats in Congress to consider exempting themselves from ObamaCare while still subjecting the American people to this horrible law that they passed."

Rep. Roby said this latest report follows a pattern of hypocrisy by Congressional Democrats on health care mandates. While the ObamaCare law was being crafted in 2009, a small number of then-Democratic majority committee and leadership staff cleverly exempted themselves from the bill's mandates.

The committee/leadership staff loophole did not apply to Members of Congress themselves or to their individual office staff, and now it appears some want to finish the job. This pattern of hypocrisy continues to demonstrate what a policy disaster President Obama's healthcare law really is, Rep. Roby said.

"I continue to support the full repeal of ObamaCare, along with additional efforts to dismantle the law piece-by-piece."
