Today, U.S. Rep. Ed Perlmutter (CO-07) opposed the irresponsible spending plan for the rest of the fiscal year (Continuing Resolution) because it maintained harmful and arbitrary across-the-board cuts impacting thousands of jobs for hardworking Americans and jeopardizing critical community services we all rely upon.
Additionally, the Continuing Resolution (CR) hinders important gun violence prevention efforts by specifically prohibiting law enforcement from taking basic measures to stop illegal gun trafficking.
Perlmutter said, "We have to work together on a solutions-oriented and balanced approach to reducing our deficit and promoting innovation and job growth here in America. Our economy is recovering, but we still have work to do to maintain jobs and help put people back to work. This CR reduces pay and benefits for hardworking families, seniors and the working poor, and I could not support it.
Furthermore, this bill irresponsibly ties the hands of the agencies and officers who stop gun violence and illegal trafficking of guns to criminals. Americans want Congress to pass legislation to make gun violence less easy, less frequent, and less deadly. This bill specifically prohibits common sense research which could help keep our kids and communities safe."
