Congressman J. Randy Forbes (VA-04), Chairman of the Seapower and Projection Forces Subcommittee of the House Armed Services Committee, will hold a hearing on the Navy, Marine Corps, and Air Force acquisition budgets on Wednesday, April 24, 2013 at 10:00 AM in Rayburn 2118. The hearing will include Assistant Secretary of the Navy for Research, Development & Acquisition Sean Stackley and uniformed representatives from the Navy, Marine Corps and Air Force. The hearing coincides with the Navy's release of slides related to the 30 Year Shipbuilding Plan.

"If decline is a choice, the new 30 year shipbuilding plan willingly chooses to continue the slow, painful decline of American Seapower. After committing to a 313-ship fleet, this plan has the Navy headed to just 270 by next year after retiring 31 vessels and only procuring 16 new ones during this time. More alarming, while this fleet is shrinking by retiring and building less major surface combatants and amphibious ships, we are artificially filling these gaps with smaller surface combatants and support vessels. I look forward to questioning the Navy on the impact of these decisions to our national security," Forbes said. "The Marines and Air Force are facing similar difficulties, exacerbated by this Administration's drastic budget cuts. My Subcommittee will ask the difficult questions to ensure that our Marines, airmen and sailors have the tools they need to deter, prevent and, if necessary, win wars."
