Congressman Charles W. Boustany, Jr., M.D., (R-South Louisiana) issued the following statement after the House Energy and Commerce Committee approved the Northern Route Approval Act earlier today. This Act approves the construction of the Keystone XL pipeline:
"With this vote, the Keystone XL pipeline is one step closer to becoming a reality. I am proud the House Energy and Commerce Committee worked in a bipartisan fashion to put the needs of American small businesses and families before politics. I have always supported the construction of the 1,700-mile Keystone XL pipeline due to the fact it will create over 20,000 jobs while injecting millions of dollars into local economies across the country. Best of all, it will reduce America's dependence on oil from the Middle East and South America as it delivers 1.1 million barrels of oil per day from Canada to refineries on the Gulf Coast.
"In South Louisiana, we understand the importance the oil and natural gas industries play in our nation's future. I welcome the Keystone XL pipeline legislation to the House floor. I encourage all of my colleagues to vote for passage of this legislation so it can move one step closer to becoming law."
