Brooks: Workers and Businesses Need Stability

Congresswoman Susan W. Brooks (R-IN) offered the following statement after voting for the Preventing Greater Uncertainty in Labor-Management Relations Act:

"Today's vote was an easy decision for anyone who believes even the President is not above the Constitution. It's simply irresponsible for the National Labor Relations Board to continue issuing rulings when the U.S. Court of Appeals has declared the President's recess appointments invalid. President Obama needs to work with the Senate to fill openings with qualified candidates focused on getting the job done rather than carrying out a political agenda.

As we work toward economic recovery, our workers and businesses can only thrive in a marketplace free of government overreach and uncertainty. House Republicans chose to provide much needed stability today."

The Preventing Greater Uncertainty in Labor-Management Relations Act responds to the ongoing legal uncertainty surrounding the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) following the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia's decision to invalidate President Obama's recess appointments. It requires the board to end all activity that necessitates a three member quorum and prohibits the board from enforcing action taken after January 2012 that required a majority. The act was passed by the House of Representatives today.

Congresswoman Susan W. Brooks serves on the Education and the Workforce, Homeland Security and Ethics Committees. She is a former Deputy Mayor of Indianapolis and former U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Indiana. Prior to serving in Congress, she was the Senior Vice President and General Counsel for Ivy Tech Community College where she led statewide workforce development and job training efforts.
