Last Friday, Congressman Randy Weber (R -- Friendswood) wrote a letter to the State Department demanding action on the Keystone Pipeline project. The Congressman made the following statement:
"America has been waiting 1678 days for the President and the State Department to make a decision on the Keystone Pipeline . This project is estimated to create over 42,100 American jobs and $65 million in local tax revenue.
If this project is approved we have the potential to produce up to 830,000 barrels of oil per day. These barrels of oil could be delivered to Gulf Coast refineries, which represent about half the amount the United States imports from the Middle East.
Instead of relying on politically unstable countries for our oil, we should be moving forward by supporting domestic oil production and oil imports from our neighbors in Canada. The Keystone Pipeline is a solid step toward becoming energy independent and strengthening America's energy security.
My letter to the State Department reiterates what 70 percent of Americans have been saying- - it is time to build not only the Keystone Pipeline, but it is time to build a stronger, safer America."
