U.S. Congressman Brad Schneider (IL-10) joined Minority Whip Steny Hoyer at the unveiling of the new Make It In America package, which focuses on strengthening our manufacturing sector and creating jobs. The plan includes Schneider's bill--the AMERICA Works Act.
"The success of American manufacturers is key to a strong middle class. We must ensure we're investing in American worker and American product," Schneider said. "That's exactly what Make It In America does. I'm honored to have the AMERICA Works Act included so we can begin address one of the most pressing challenges our manufacturers face today: the skills gap."
The America Works Act encourages industries to come together and agree on standards that define the skill sets they need in their workforce. Once the skill sets have been identified, curriculums will be developed to provide students and workers with nationally-portable, industry-recognized credentials, ensuring that they are prepared for the jobs that are in demand.
Make It In America is a comprehensive jobs plan that aims to revitalize America's manufacturing sector and help create high-skill, high-wage jobs. It centers on four key areas: developing a national manufacturing strategy, increasing manufacturing exports, encouraging businesses to bring innovation and jobs back home, and investing in training and securing the skilled workforce needed to support manufacturing in the twenty-first century.
