Rep. Schneider Applauds Bipartisan Compromise to Expand Background Checks

U.S. Congressman Brad Schneider (IL-10) released the following statement today in support of the compromise to expand background checks reached by Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) and Senator Pat Toomey (R-PA).

"I am greatly encouraged by the bipartisan agreement reached by Senators Manchin and Toomey to expand existing background checks and close the gun show loophole. I urge the Senate to take swift action on this and the other common-sense measures that the majority of Americans support, including banning military-style assault weapons, limiting magazine capacity and making gun trafficking a federal crime. Before we lose any more children, any more mothers, fathers or friends, we must do everything we can to reduce this senseless violence, and I look forward to seeing these important proposals move through the Senate and come to the House for a vote."

Schneider has been active in calling for sensible new measures to reduce gun violence and is a cosponsor of the Gun Trafficking Prevention Act that would make gun trafficking a federal crime. He also hosted a gun violence prevention roundtable with community leaders and spoke on the House floor urging his colleagues to act on common sense proposals to reduce gun violence.
