Date: April 19, 2013
Location: Washington, DC

Today, Congressman Bobby L. Rush signed onto a concurrent resolution expressing the sense of the Congress that the Chained Consumer Price Index should not be used to calculate cost of living adjustments for Social Security benefits. Rush also sent a letter along with other congressional members to President Barack Obama stating his disapproval of placing Social Security benefits on the chopping block as potential budget cuts.

"We cannot compromise the benefits to the most vulnerable in our society," said Rush. "Social Security is a vital program that supports the disabled and seniors. Cuts to these programs will have a devastating impact to individuals who rely on Social Security benefits to live from day to day. It is our job as Members of Congress to protect the economic security to generations of Americans through benefits earned based on contributions made over a worker's lifetime."
