Collins Named Vice Chair of Foreign Affairs Subcommittee

Press Release

Location: Washington, DC

Representative Doug Collins (R-GA) has been named Vice Chair on the Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on the Middle East and North Africa. House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman, Rep. Ed Royce (R-CA), and Subcommittee Chairman, Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL), appointed Collins to this position earlier in the week, highlighting his military commitment and time deployed in Iraq as a member of the United States Air Force Reserves. Collins offered the following response after learning of his new role on the subcommittee:

"For six very long months of my life, I lived on a cot with my fellow airmen, studied the cultural and religious aspects of this region, and called Balad, Iraq my home," Collins said. "I appreciate Chairman Royce and Chairman Ros-Lehtinen for giving me the opportunity to learn from my colleagues and also educate them on my experiences in the Middle East. This region is vital to the future advancement of American foreign policy, and I am looking forward to contributing whatever I can from my personal insight to promote a better and more secure wellbeing for America in our international community."

Chairman Royce added:

"I am pleased to name Congressman Doug Collins as Vice Chair of the Middle East and North Africa Subcommittee," said Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, Rep. Ed Royce (R-CA). "North Africa is home to a large and growing radical movement, the situation in Syria continues to deteriorate and Iran advances its march towards nuclear weapons. Congressman Collins' military background and expertise will be invaluable resources as the Committee addresses these security threats and the new governments emerging in a rapidly changing Middle East."
