House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today in recognition of Earth Day:
"On Earth Day, let us redouble our efforts to make sure our children and grandchildren inherit a healthy environment and can enjoy the natural wonders that have always fueled the American spirit and imagination. I join in applauding the ongoing efforts by many individuals and organizations to preserve our natural resources for future generations. At a time when the effects of climate change are being felt in the form of deadly storms, melting arctic ice, and rising temperatures, we need to continue taking steps to protect our planet and to reverse pollution's effects. House Democrats have made it a priority to protect our shared natural resources by working with the Obama Administration to make our country less dependent on foreign oil, enact the toughest fuel economy standards ever, and clean up our air and water. I look forward to continuing to promote measures in Congress that advance the goals of developing clean energy alternatives, conserving our natural resources, and addressing climate change."
