Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez (CA-46) today released the following statement in response to the release of the President's FY14 budget proposal.
"The President's budget is a starting point for how we can address our deficit challenges while continuing to prioritize job creation and the recovery of our economy. The budget's framework recognizes that to achieve a bipartisan solution to our budgetary challenges, tough choices must be made. I recognize that compromise must be made in the budget process and I commend the President for his efforts to meet halfway. I look forward to reviewing the President's framework line-by-line over the next week.
"I support the President's suggested investments in job growth and our economy. I am also glad to see funding in the President's budget for mental health programs. We absolutely must do more to address the issue of mental health in our country to ensure tragedies like Newtown do not happen again.
"Democrats have made the hard decisions and the President has put a compromise forth. Now it is the Republicans' turn to come to the table and join us in addressing our challenges. The American people expect progress to be made to reduce the deficit and to grow our economy, and we must work together to accomplish this."
