U.S. Rep. Dennis Ross (FL-15) issued a statement after the FAA announced that they will not close any of the 149 air traffic control towers until June 15, 2013. These towers were scheduled to begin closing starting this Sunday. On June 15, all of the towers scheduled to close will close, including the one at Lakeland Linder Airport.
"Today, the FAA announced that they will refrain from shutting down any air traffic control tower until June 15, 2013," said Ross.
"While this is a step in the right direction, I have long said that the FAA needs to find other cost-saving measures in lieu of shutting down towers like the one at Lakeland Airport. I am also hopeful that the FAA will soon meet with me after my repeated requests have gone unanswered so that we can discuss possible solutions."
